2023 ID.4 Exterior
It's clear that Volkswagen set out to create a vehicle that was just as approachable as any other SUV from within its stable with a friendly vibe reminiscent of a Beetle. In fact, casual observers may assume that this is simply an attractively styled new VW crossover with a conventional powertrain. There are signs that this isn't the case, though, such as the absence of a normal radiator grille. The LED headlights are nicely styled and customers get illuminated VW logos as well as an illuminated light bar from the S level and up. A few honeycomb accents add a dash of sportiness.
On the base model, the ID.4 rides on 19-inch machined alloy wheels and wears black roof rails. The higher-spec S has a panoramic fixed glass roof, 20-inch alloys, and adaptive LED projector headlights. The Pro S Plus has unique 20-inch alloys, a black roof, and silver roof rails.

The 2023 VW ID.4's dimensions see it fall into the compact crossover segment. It measures 180.5 inches in length, 64.6 inches in height, and 72.9 inches wide. In terms of the VW ID.4's length and a size comparison to the Model Y, the German is 6.5 inches shorter, a little narrower, and a tad taller.
AWD derivatives are slightly taller at 65.1 inches. The VW ID.4's wheelbase is 108.7 inches for AWD models and 0.2 inches longer for RWD derivatives. With all that extra battery weight onboard, the ID.4 is a husky little SUV, and tips the scales at 4,317 pounds, even for the lightest new Standard model with the smaller battery. The heaviest AWD ID.4 weighs 4,927 lbs. The VW ID.4's ground clearance is 6.1 inches for RWD models and 6.8 inches for those with AWD.

Exterior Colors
The entry-level ID.4 Pro can be finished in a choice of five colors. Only Pure White and the new-for-2023 Pure Gray aren't metallic. The metallics are Silver Mist and Tourmaline Blue and they're both new hues. The fifth color, Deep Black Pearl, is a pearlescent color and also a new arrival. You'd need to upgrade to the S to get anything that can be described as vibrant, and this trim level adds three extra-cost colors, the Aurora Red and Arctic Blue metallics, and the pearlescent Opal White (that replaces the no-cost Pure White) - for $395 each. The Pro S Plus comes in a two-tone finish with a black roof and a choice of Pure Gray, Deep Black Pearl, Opal White, Arctic Blue, Aurora Red, or Arctic Blue. The choice of exterior paint does affect some interior upholstery options. Last year's Moonstone Gray, Glacier White, Mythos Black, Scale Silver, and Dusk Blue have all been discontinued.
