As the entry-level version of the Taos, the S gets a limited number of standard features. The base model shares its 158-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the rest of the lineup and sends its power to the front wheels via an eight-speed transmission. You can opt for AWD with a seven-speed DSG, however, which adds heated front seats to the feature count. Standard features include 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, an eight-inch digital gauge cluster, a 6.5-inch infotainment display with a four-speaker sound system, and a whole host of driver aids such as automatic headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. A few interior comforts like leatherette-and-cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split rear seat with center armrest and pass-through, a leatherette-trimmed multifunction steering wheel, two front USB-C data ports, and push-button start round out the offering.
