Called the Recharge, the Volvo S60 Hybrid is the brand's premium mid-size sedan offering for the US market. Although it's not quite as thrilling as some of its rivals, the Recharge still has some spice to plate up. Equipped with a turbo- and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with electric motors, standard models make 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft, but an extended-range powertrain ups these figures to 455 hp and 523 lb-ft. The Polestar Engineered version is also available with 415 hp, but in all versions, outputs are sent to all four wheels. The S60 Recharge may be a plug-in hybrid, but it's not short on performance, with enough in reserve to challenge rivals that have sportier personas. Verdict: Is the 2022 Volvo S60 Recharge Hybrid A Good Car?
After a review of the Volvo S60 Recharge Hybrid, we're even more convinced that the reputation the sedan has gained is justified. As a refined, luxurious cruiser, it succeeds, and with the new Extended Range options, it's even better as a hybrid. In this format, you get up to 41 miles of range on electric propulsion, and a combined 74 MPGe rating is up from the 69 MPGe on the regular version. The 0 to 60 mph sprint was already impressive at just over 4.1 seconds in the 415-hp Polestar Engineered version, and with the new setup, you can expect even more thrills.
Despite the added weight of the hybrid components, it's still a highly composed sedan that takes corners with confidence. Add to that an electric-only top speed of 78 mph, and it's pretty versatile, too. With high safety ratings, it's an ideal family vehicle. Despite a very modest appearance, the interior is as opulent as can be, packed with luxuries and conveniences, high-quality materials, and the latest tech. Although it has smaller trunk dimensions than the segment average, this car is great value for money.
What's the Price of the 2022 Volvo S60 Recharge Hybrid Sedan?
The base price of the Volvo S60 hybrid is cheaper than last year, thanks to the introduction of a new entry-spec trim. The R-Design Expression has a starting cost of $47,650, with the standard R-Design priced at $3,000 more. This $50,650 price tag also applies to the more elegant Inscription trim. The special R-Design Black Edition goes for $52,000. For the ultimate in performance and the full spectrum of advanced features and upgrades, $64,800 will get you the Polestar Engineered.
