Volvo’s single-trim XC40 Recharge is a pure electric version of the already excellent XC40. The XC40 Recharge’s 402 hp and 486 lb-ft allows it to hit 60 mph in under five seconds, which is pretty brisk considering its hefty curb weight. With constant 4WD, maximum traction is always provided. The range of 223 miles is adequate but lagging behind its main rivals, some of which are more affordable. Volvo’s nine-inch touchscreen interface is quick and intuitive, thanks to the Android Automotive software. Developed by Google, it gives you access to Google Maps and Google Assistant, both of which work beautifully. The Recharge boasts an impressive list of standard luxury features, with the power-adjustable heated front seats and 12-inch digital instrument cluster being just two features on a very long list.
