2022 Volvo XC90 Review: Sublime Swedish Style
Volvo has come a long way from being the choice of older, more conservative commuters and now produces some of the best SUVs in the USA, and, arguably, the world. Options like the XC40, XC60, and this - the three-row XC90 - offer a beautiful balance of luxury, safety, and performance. The XC90 is the largest SUV in Volvo's lineup and the only seven-seater. Competing against vehicles such as the BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Mercedes GLE-Class SUV, this Swedish family hauler undercuts both on price, and although it might not be as sharp to drive, it's still a seriously comfortable machine boasting one of the nicest interiors in this price range. On top of that, you get a ton of standard tech and safety features.
Under the hood, the Volvo XC90 has a 250 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo T5 gas engine or, with an additional supercharger, this can be upped to 316 hp in T6 guise. For those with a lust for power (and an eco-friendly mindset), the T8 hybrid version offers up 455 hp. It might not be as driver-focused as the BMW or the Porsche, but there are a lot of reasons to like this Volvo - not the least of which is outstanding safety ratings and an attractive price.

2022 Volvo XC90 Handling and Driving Impressions
Unlike more assertive rivals from Germany, the new Volvo XC90 SUV is most certainly geared towards those looking for a comfortable ride. The XC90 will make its curb weight known around the corners as it leans in and out of bends, but the overall driving experience is composed and relaxed. The XC90 doesn't pretend to be sporty, so don't expect it to act in that fashion - if you're going for a leisurely and composed ride, you won't be disappointed.
Steering is light but accurate and strikes a good balance between feeling and response, although we would've liked a little more feedback. The optional air suspension is a good idea, as the standard setup can feel bumpy at lower speeds, especially with larger wheels. We appreciated the well-insulated cabin, and the hybrid is supremely graceful in all-electric mode, too.

Verdict: Is The 2022 Volvo XC90 A Good SUV?
The Volvo XC90 proves that there is still a case for a large and comfortable luxury SUV in a sea awash with vehicles that attempt to marry the space, practicality, and safety of an SUV with the sporty dynamics of a sedan or sports car. Not everyone wants to be thrilled by their family car, and the 2022 XC90 exemplifies what a premium SUV should be; comfortable, capable, and safe. The latter is worth mentioning separately - safety reviews for the Volvo XC90 are class-leading and include a Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS.
The exterior styling is handsome yet reserved, and the interior outshines many of the Volvo XC90's competitors that cost even more. It makes its weight known on the road but remains comfortable and compliant through the corners. Under the hood, the range of petrol and hybrid power plants offers excellent drivability and efficiency. Couple that with a ton of tech, safety features, value for money, and a third row of seats, and you have yourself a winner.
