The 2022 GMC Hummer EV just made its official debut, ushering in a new electric era for the GMC brand. There are plenty of interesting points to mention, including a starting price of $79,995, a driving range of over 350 miles, and two different electric drivetrain configurations producing up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.

Here, we wanted to take a deeper dive into some of the Hummer's more unique features. This truck includes some segment and industry-first features, some of which have never been seen before on a production vehicle. Here are the seven coolest features in the new GMC Hummer.

1. Watts To Freedom (0-60 MPH In 3 Secs)

The most powerful version of the GMC Hummer comes with a three-motor drive system powered by Ultium batteries using GM's proprietary EV drive units. These three electric motors send power out to an e4WD system with torque vectoring, producing 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for this Hummer version, you gain access to GMC's new Watts to Freedom function.

GMC doesn't give a deep description of what this feature does but says it is a "driver-selectable immersive experience that unleashes the full acceleration capability of the EV propulsion system." In simpler terms, it allows the Hummer to hit 60 mph in just three seconds flat.

2. CrabWalk Mode

Trucks are difficult to maneuver due to their robust size, but the Hummer has a cool 4 Wheel Steer feature with an included CrabWalk function. The rear steer can articulate by 10 degrees, helping to cut the Hummer's turning radius. The CrabWalk function allows the rear wheels to turn in the same direction as the front, basically helping the trunk pivot around obstacles without driving forward or backward. You won't find much use for this feature in a mall parking lot, but it should come in handy off-road.

3. Extreme Off-Road Package

GMC says the Hummer is the company's most capable off-road vehicle ever, which is a pretty bold claim. The truck comes with an available Extreme Off-Road Package, which adds 18-inch wheels, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler All Territory MT tires, underbody armor, rock sliders, and underbody cameras. In addition, GMC says the Hummer can accommodate 37-inch tires. The package bundles in GMC's UltraVision camera system, which gives live "virtual spotter" views to help the driver place the front wheels around obstacles. The truck offers up to 18 available camera angles, meaning you should never worry about damaging a body panel.

4. Unreal Engine

While the GMC Hummer is electric, it does have something called the Unreal Engine. Gaming enthusiasts will recognize the Unreal Engine as the lines of code that power popular titles such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Gears of War 5, and Battlegrounds. The GMC Hummer is the Unreal Engine's first automotive application, which will power the 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Besides providing richer graphics, we aren't sure what purpose the Unreal Engine will serve in the Hummer, but it should provide some high-tech features.

5. Infinity Roof

Though far more expensive, the GMC Hummer clearly wants to steal a few buyers away from the Jeep brand with its standard Infinity Roof. Thanks to the rigidity of the Ultium batteries, the glass roof features removable transparent Sky Panels that create an open-air driving experience. And since there is no engine in the front, GMC included an area where you can store the panels when they are not installed.

6. MultiPro Tailgate

Since the Hummer is GMC's new flagship product, it receives the company's flagship MultiPro Tailgate. This unique tailgate features six positions, each of which offers different utility for truck buyers. For example, one of the positions allows longer items to extend beyond the tailgate while another acts as a step to hop up into the bed. The Hummer's bed also features a power tonneau cover and a sliding piece of glass that leads into the cabin like a Toyota Tundra.

7. Super Cruise

Cadillac has allowed another GM brand to use its Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology for the first time. This segment-leading system allows for hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of marked roads and now includes a new lane automatic changing feature. After the GMC Hummer, Super Cruise will expand to other GM brand vehicles including the upcoming Chevy Bolt EUV.
