Not too long ago, your options were few and far between if you were looking for a reliable, livable road car with upwards of 500 horsepower on tap. Times have changed, and automotive technology is more advanced now than at any prior time in human history; 700+ horsepower today almost seems like a walk in the park.

Of course, there's always room for improvement, and Detroit's modern crop of high-powered muscle cars make it possible to unlock some truly staggering levels of power output. Take the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. At more than 700 hp from the factory, it's plenty potent right out of the box, but turn it over to the right speed shop with a pile of cash and you can drive off with something making well north of 1,000 hp.

Or, you can leave all the hard work to a previous owner, and buy their souped-up road rocket after they're done with it.

For sale right now in North Berwick, Maine is a monster of a tuned Challenger SRT Hellcat, capable of a reported 1,300 hp - more than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport - and a quarter-mile in the 8-second range. The majority of the work was done by HHP Racing in Delaware, and getting to 1,300 hp involved building a bespoke motor from a 405-cubic-inch Gen 3 Performance block, CNC-ported cylinder heads, a Bryant billet crank, Carillo billet rods, custom Mahle pistons, and a custom camshaft. The mill boasts a 10.5:1 compression ratio, a gargantuan 4.5L Whipple supercharger, and a Nitrous Outlook system with four bottles.

In short, there's very little "Hellcat" left in the car.

Mind you, the engine isn't all that's different about the car. It's a bona fide drag racing machine, with a cage, two-step, transbrake, an ATI Outlaw torque converter, and a carbon driveshaft, 9-inch independent rear, and half-axles all made by DSS. It also boasts a Strange PRO center section with 3.90 gearing and a 35-spline Wavetrac limited-slip differential. All four corners sit on Viking coilovers, and the frame has been stiffened to hold up to the extra power.

The price for all this? The seller is asking for a not-unreasonable $70,000, with just 2,700 miles on the odometer. If you're looking for a turn-key drag car with modern styling and all the right equipment, it's a heck of a deal.
