Amongst the million-pound motors up for auction in London next month, the highly sought-after 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is the pick of the bunch. This particular model is number 20 of 29 alloy-bodied Gullwings made and carries a guide price of £2.5m-£3.2m. Finished in a desirable silver exterior with a red leather interior, the car was first delivered to a Swiss industrialist back in 1955 in a coat of ivory white. The color change is not expected to scare off potential suitors.

As a renowned seller of Ferraris, RM Auctions is once again offering a fine collection of motor cars from the Prancing Horse marque, including a race-bred, alloy-bodied 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Scaglietti Berlinetta Tour de France. As one of just 36 single-louvre examples with an accomplished racing pedigree and professional restoration, the Ferrari carries an estimate of £1.8m-£2.4m. Other historic Ferraris at the auction include a 1958 250 GT Ellena Coupe and 1970 365/4 Daytona.
