An automotive tragedy occurred this Saturday at the Mille Miglia, the very event which celebrates some of the finest and best-preserved antique cars on display today. A Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing worth 800,000 Euros and driven by two brothers – heirs to the Sixt rental car fortune – was hit head on by a speeding BMW 1-Series. The brothers escaped with light injuries, but the black-on-red 1956 Mercedes suffered extensive damage which will be quite impossible to repair.
