Vigilante 4x4 has been restoring vintage Jeeps made between 1963 and 1991 since 2017, and its latest product is a 1966 Jeep Gladiator available with Dodge V8 engines. Yes, that includes the 707-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat unit.

The engine is just the start, however, as Vigilante meticulously re-engineers its custom commissions while retaining the authentic feel of the vehicle.

The most common engine for the build is Dodge's 6.4-liter Hemi SRT-8, making up to 485 hp with output controlled by a six-speed heavy-duty Tremec manual transmission, but a four-speed manual can be optioned.

Vigilante has also improved the classic Gladiator's handling and overall drivability, the main components being a modern four-link suspension with Eibach coil springs and Fox 2.0 dampers to soften travel and take on rugged off-road trails. Stopping is also essential, so Vigilante uses BAER six-piston calipers, while larger modern wheels and tires improve overall performance.

The interior of the 1966 Gladiator is also restored with modern upgrades added, such as electric windows and door locks, Bluetooth connectivity, a JL Audio system, a leather-covered bench seat, and a new natural woven carpet. Details go as far as an in-house developed gauge cluster that looks stock but is fully modernized and highly stylized but original badging, logos, and emblems for a fresh look.

The Vigilante 1966 Gladiator is built using old-school methods, like heat and quench metal shaping, and modern techniques, like a plasma-based metalling process, to protect the body from rust. To create the design, the company had to reverse engineer the classic Gladiator and then use a full 3D scan of the body to validate the bodywork's fitment over the new platform.

"Over time, our company has become a one-stop solution for all Jeep restoration needs, and we have the ability to rebuild and introduce an entirely new chassis so our Vigilante customs can accommodate the performance demands of modern powertrains," says Daniel van Doveren, Vigilante's co-founder and CEO.

All Vigilante builds start at $295,000, which isn't cheap. Still, it looks like the level of craftsmanship and performance justifies the price for those with the means and desire for an old-school Jeep Gladiator experience with modern performance, comfort, and convenience.
