The upcoming launch of the new Land Rover Defender has inspired a resurgence of classic Defender restomods and restorations. But now it's the Toyota Land Cruiser's turn to get the restomod treatment. Built by Legacy Overland, which specializes in restoring and modernizing classic off-roaders, this 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 has been meticulously restored to its former glory and received a few modern upgrades.

No component has been left untouched, as the rugged off-roader was broken down into the last and smallest components. Everything has been restored, refurbished, or replaced.

Mechanically, the 4.2-liter Toyota 2F engine has been rebuilt new pistons, rings, sleeves, and bearings (main, rod, cam). The crank and cam were polished, the valve seats were ported, and the surfaces were machined. Other mechanical changes include a rebuilt gearbox and transfer case with new synchros and bearings, and new rings and bearings for the differentials and wheel hubs.

To modernize the 1970s off-roader, the front and rear brakes have been upgraded to discs, a power steering unit was installed to make the off-roader easier to drive, and LED headlights have been fitted to improve visibility.

The carburetor was upgraded to a free flowing Weber unit with electric choke and the suspension was also replaced with an ARB / Old Man Emu set up, including leaf springs, shocks, shackles and bushings. This stunning restomod rides on 16-inch steel wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

Inside, the improved cabin was hand crafted in full grain distressed leather with black edge piping throughout. There's also a custom-made upholstered cubby box and an extra strength roll bar four four-point racing-style seat belts for the rear benches. New creature comforts include a RetroSound vintage Bluetooth-enabled radio with four speakers, including two mounted in custom speaker boxes in the rear, a USB charging port and an air conditioning unit.
