Joins Coupe and Active Tourer in expanding 2-Series family.
While BMW has denied that it will add a 2-Series Sedan or Gran Coupe to the current coupe lineup, the expanding 2 family is due to gain a new member later this year: the 2-Series Convertible will arrive toward the end of 2013, approximately one year after the Coupe’s unveiling. Replacing the 1-Series drop-top, which sold almost 130,000 units around the world, BMW expects the new convertible to be even more successful.
Equipped with a soft folding top, the Convertible will duplicate the Coupe’s engine lineup, currently destined for the US market with a 2.0-liter inline-four on the 228i and 3.0-liter inline-six on the M235i, both of them turbocharged. Currently, there are no plans for US imports of the diesel range offered in European markets.
