It may be playing second fiddle to the Ford Mustang in the sales race, but the Dodge Challenger remains a massively popular muscle car. In the first quarter of 2021, Stellantis managed to shift a staggering 11,124 units of the retro-styled Dodge; no mean feat considering the long-in-the-tooth Camaro rival first saw the light of day 14 years ago.

This continued success is undoubtedly down to the appealing cost of entry. You could walk into a Dodge dealership right now and drive out in a brand new Challenger for just $30,825. So why has someone listed a 2008 model for sale at $59,000? At first glance, you might think the seller is out of his mind.

But there's a reason behind the astronomical price tag. With just 1,028 miles on the clock, this box-fresh example is certainly one of the tidiest examples we've seen yet.

The brief but detailed description notes the Challenger was bought new on September 9, 2008. Since then, it has lived a pampered life in a climate-controlled garage with its original owner noting it has "never been wet." We're guessing this means it hasn't ever been driven in the rain.

This obsession with keeping the muscle car in pristine condition has certainly paid off; the Hemi Orange paintwork presents beautifully and is uplifted by the carbon fiber-look racing stripes running across the hood. The five-spoke wheels are blemish-free and even the underside of the V8-powered muscle car looks as fresh as the day it left the factory - the seller notes it has had its undercarriage polished.

Naturally, the Challenger will be sold with a stack of invoices and all the original labels. The extremely low mileage is down to the fact that this wasn't used as a daily driver. In fact, it's a show car and has the first-place trophies to prove it.

Under the brawny hood sits a 425-horsepower 6.1-liter V8 Hemi engine that was only used for the first two years of production. Here, the sweet-sounding motor is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. It's amazing to see such a brilliantly preserved example of any car, but the truth is that there are many well-maintained and low mileage Challengers out there for a fraction of the cost.

It's not a particularly rare variant of the Challenger, like this Mopar Drag Pak or a powerful Demon with just three miles on the clock. It's also worth noting that a brand new Hellcat (with zero miles) could be yours for just $9,000 more. Still, there's no denying what a special car this eBay-listed Challenger is.

If anything, something this well-kept deserves to be in a museum somewhere or even join a Stellantis heritage fleet. Whether it's worth the money is something we can't answer, but there are definitely car collectors out there who will be attracted to this completely original example.
