Driver Dave Thomas has just set a record in his 2011 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak at the NHRA Division 1 National Open. He won both the ET and mph records in the AA/SA Class just two weeks after taking delivery of the car. Many of may be able to recall the official unveiling of the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak last October at the Dodge Viper Owners Invitational. Remember, this is an entirely factory spec performance package.
Based on the stock 2011 Challenger, it features stock competition wheels and tires, a Mopar solid rear axle with a performance gear ratio, a 2-speed drag race transmission with integrated roll control, a competition fuel system with fuel cell, and an interior gauge package. Thomas's record-setting pass was 9.43 seconds at 143.90 mph and according to the driver himself, he could have gone even faster, stating that "we only had passes in the car prior to our first run down the track yesterday, which was the record-setter." He also praised the car in that "there are no headaches involved in setting it up."
Is it that simple? Appears so, as he claimed "you just get in there and drive it. It's neat that the factory can make something like this."
