The top finalists for the World Car of the Year (WCOTY), World Performance Car, World Green Car and World Car Design of the Year awards have been announced, with the overall winners to be declared at the New York Auto Show on March 28. In the category of WCOTY, a very tight race means there are four finalists this year, instead of three. These are the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z and the VW Golf.
Sixty-six leading auto journalists from around the world make up the panel that selects and votes for the best cars of the year. And their chosen top three finalists for the World Performance Car for 2013 are the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, and Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z. The World Green Car award finalists are the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S, and the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, while the final category of World Car Design of the Year award will be contested by the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type and Mazda6.
