In the middle of last month, we were able to confirm that the new BMW M3 would indeed drop its V8 and head towards an inline-six setup. According to a report from das Germans over at BimmerToday, the new engine could put out just shy of 480hp. The previous generation BMW M3 made use of a 4.0-liter V8 which was good for 414hp, so an extra 70 or so horsepower would really spice things up in the German automaker's lineup.

We're talking a 3.2-liter inline-six (possibly supercharged) that could give the new M3 a top speed of around 186mph. Codenamed "The Apollo," we expect good things from BMW on this one. While details are still murky, it is nice to see the new 2014 F80 M3 starting to take shape. It is expected to debut in concept form at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and may well make its debut in production form at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.
