By now we all know that the newly redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang has ditched its solid rear axle in favor of an independent rear suspension. That's great news for those who want their Mustang to handle better, especially on twisty roads, but it's not so good news for drag racers. The Mustang has a devoted following of drag racers who absolutely love their car. And Ford doesn't want to lose their business.

If a new rumor is to be believed, it won't have to. Ford is said to have a solution: to offer a 2015 Mustang "body in white" with the independent rear suspension replaced by a 9-inch solid rear axle. If this bit of gossip turns out to be true, expect to see the drag racer-friendly SRA Mustang debut sometime next year. What's more, Ford could very well end up selling the SRA as a kit through its Ford Racing program. This would enable drag racers to make the mods on their own without involving Ford dealers.
