2015 Subaru Legacy and Outback Are Safe to Crash

Just don't purposely attempt to do so.

It’s not so easy for cars to pass rigorous safety tests these days. Yes, the US government has its own battery of tests, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) provides an even greater challenge. Their tests are even more rigorous, thus proving just how safe or unsafe the latest vehicles really are. Many even consider the IIHS crash tests the gold standard. Fair enough, but when you’re shopping for a family mid-size sedan or wagon, what are some of the best choices?

It should come as no surprise that in the IIHS’s most recent crash test findings, the new 2015 Subaru Legacy and its wagon twin, the Outback, both earned top ratings. In the 40 mph small overlap crash test each received a score of “Good,” the top rating. The previous versions only earned a "Marginal" score.
