We've never been shy in our admiration of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. This writer learned to drive stick in one, which required a decent amount of gas due to plenty of stalling. No matter, the MX-5 is still one (if not the) best pure and affordable sports car you can buy new today. It's really amazing that a car like this is still built in today's world of high-tech cars and crossovers. Making its second European debut here in Geneva, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata not only looks fantastic but also extremely tempting to drive.

Right here. On the showroom floor. Too bad we'd get kicked out for doing so. Anyway, European buyers will be offered either a 1.5-liter four banger under the hood with 130 hp or an optional 2.0-liter four with 155 hp. The six-speed manual gearbox is the only true transmission option here but there is an automatic for those who can't row their own gears. Sales are expected to get underway in the coming months and, for the time being, the MX-5 remains without a real competitor; the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S/Toyota GT86 are coupes only, and with rear seats. The MX-5 is as good as ever.
