With every automaker under the sun creating SUVs and crossovers, trying to stand out from the crowd has become increasingly important. Volkswagen has given the R-Line treatment to a host of models for this is exact reason, and at the LA Auto Show this week the Tiguan was revealed as the latest to receive what is essentially a selection of cosmetic upgrades. The all-new 2018 Tiguan is already a sporty-looking SUV, and the new trim package simply accentuates its athletic side.

Exterior enhancements include a set of 19-inch Trenton aluminum alloys for SEL trims and 20-inch Braselton alloys on SEL Premium trims, R-Line badging, unique front and rear bumpers with stylish air intakes, a gloss black rear diffuser, and body-color wheel arches and side skirts. The interior of the Tiguan R-Line boasts the R-Line logo on the start screen lest you forget this is no ordinary model. An R-Line steering wheel badge, black headliner, stainless-steel sport pedal covers and stainless-steel door sills embossed with the R-Line logo round off the subtle cabin upgrades.

Like the stock Tiguan, the R-Line will feature Volkswagen's 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The R-Line package on SEL trims is priced at $1,795, and also includes front and rear Park Distance Control (ParkPilot). As SEL Premium models already include ParkPilot, the R-Line package is priced at just $1,495. The VW Tiguan R-Line package is expected to go on sale at the start of 2018.
