That puts it right up against the larger Dodge Durango R/T.

In the market for a performance crossover? Ford could have the answer in the form of the new Edge ST. The Blue Oval automaker revealed it as the replacement for the outgoing Edge Sport earlier this year, and now we know how much it will cost. According to CarsDirect, Dearborn's first ST-badged SUV will carry a sticker price of $43,350 (delivered). That's a modest (if not inconsequential) increase of $1,585 over the Edge Sport. And for the extra scratch, it packs quite a punch.

Powering the Edge ST is Ford's 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, sending 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft to all four wheels. That's 20 more horses and 30 lb-ft more torque, making this the most powerful V6 in its class. It also comes with a sportier suspension, 20-inch wheels, dual exhaust, and an array of visual enhancements inside and out to differentiate the ST from "lesser" versions of the Edge. Of course that sticker price is just the starting point. Opt for the Performance Brake Package (once it becomes available) and you'll need to shell out an extra $2,695. But to do so, you'll also have to specify the Equipment Group 401A for another $5,585.

That option group includes an assortment of convenience features, like heated and cooled front seats, 180-degree front camera, panoramic roof, and Ford's Co-Pilot360 Assist+ system. Even so equipped, though, the Edge ST presents a tempting alternative to higher-priced machinery from the likes of Audi or Mercedes. But its closest competitor may be the larger Dodge Durango. The Durango R/T packs a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with slightly more muscle (at 360 hp and 390 lb-ft) and similar price tag of $45,090 (delivered). The top Durango SRT boasts the 6.4-liter Hemi with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft (compared to the Edge ST's 335 hp and 380 lb-ft), but costs considerably more at $64,340.
