The average new car sells for around $36,000 in the US these days, so it's no wonder buyers are taking out even bigger auto loans for greater periods of time. Too bad for them because there are still some new car bargains out there right now, and the all-new 2019 Honda Insight is one of them. The automaker has just announced official pricing for the Ohio-built hybrid sedan, with the base trim LX starting at $23,725, including the $895 destination fee. That price gets you a stylish family sedan with a combined fuel economy of 52 mpg (55/49 mpg city/highway).
That's made possible by the 1.5-liter i-VTEC Atkinson-cycle inline-four engine paired with an electric propulsion motor with a lithium-ion battery pack. The combined output is 151 hp and 197 lb-ft of torque. Standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, automatic high-beams, 7-inch digital driver's meter, heated mirrors, push-button start, 6-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth, among other items. The mid-level EX goes for $24,995 with destination, and adds a 60/40 split rear seat, smart entry, two more speakers, Sirius XM radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Insight Touring begins at $28,995, including destination.
It features leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering, heated front seats, 8-way power driver's seat and 4-way power front passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic wipers, LED fog lights, a sunroof, 17-alloy wheels, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Regardless of trim, all new Insights come with the Honda Sensing suite of safety tech, such as a multi-angle rearview camera, blind spot indicators, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. The Touring's fuel economy, however, is slightly lower with a combined 48 mpg and 51/45 mpg city/highway. Production got underway last month and sales will begin nationwide on June 29.
