Sadly, the stunning Kia ProCeed shooting brake won’t be arriving in America.
Kia has expanded the new Ceed range in Europe with the unveil of the 2019 Ceed GT hatchback and 2019 ProCeed Shooting Brake. Slated to go on sale in Europe in Q1 2019, the Kia Ceed GT is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that produces 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, but Kia hasn’t revealed any performance details.
Power is sent though a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is being offered for the first time. The Ceed GT may be underpowered compared to some of its rivals like the Ford Focus ST, Honda Civic Type R, and Volkswagen Golf GTI, but it should be considerably more affordable.
“The all-new Ceed GT occupies a unique position in the mid-size family car segment and doesn’t simply chase the highest top speed or fastest straight-line acceleration. It offers greater agility and grip on winding roads, maximum confidence and comfort at a cruise, and fast-revving turbocharged power perfectly matched to European tastes,” said Kia Motors Europe executive, Emilio Herrera.
Visual elements also distinguish the sportier GT model from the rest of the Ceed range, including a new front bumper design incorporating larger air intakes and gloss black trim along the base, as well as dual exhaust tips. At the side, the Ceed GT features a glossy chrome window surround and more substantial side sills finished in gloss black and red.
To provide more stopping power, engineers have replaced the standard 288-mm front brake discs with a larger 320-mm set housed in 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 225/40 R18 tires. The 2019 Kia Ceed GT will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show next month before entering production next year. While it won’t be going on sale in America, it could preview the new turbocharged Forte5 hot hatch Kia has hinted about.
This wasn’t the only new member of the Ceed family Kia has introduced, as the Korean automaker also lifted the wraps off the new ProCeed shooting brake. Previewed by the stunning concept last year, the ProCeed serves as the new flagship of the Ceed range and will be available in Europe as either a GT-Line or a range-topping GT model.
Three engines will be available for the GT-Line model, including the 1.0-liter T-GDI with 118 hp, a 1.4-liter T-GDI with 138 hp and a new 1.6-liter CRDi Smartstream diesel with 134 hp. All three engines can be paired to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The range-topping ProCeed GT uses the same 1.6-liter T-GDI unit as the new Ceed GT producing 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque paired to a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Production will start in November, but Kia has already ruled out the possibility of the ProCeed shooting brake being sold in America much to our dismay.
