The current fourth-generation Nissan Pathfinder has been with us since 2013 and it hasn't been significantly overhauled during its lifespan. Nissan barely changed the Pathfinder for the 2019 model year but is now revealing a new special edition to help keep its mid-size SUV fresh.

At the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Nissan has unveiled the Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition, a special value package with unique interior and exterior appointments meant to emphasize the Pathfinder's rugged, body-on-frame heritage.

"The Rock Creek Edition name was chosen to connect to Pathfinder's family outdoor adventure-minded target customers," said Scott Shirley, vice president, CMM and Marketing Operations, Nissan North America. "By offering the Rock Creek Package on a range of grades, drivetrains, and colors, buyers are able to customize their Pathfinders to their precise tastes."

The Rock Creek Edition will go on sale this spring with a package price of just $995 on top of any Pathfinder SV or SL with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive and will be available in seven different exterior colors. Purchasing all of the options included in the Rock Creek Edition would cost $1,315 separately, so the package saves buyers a total of $320.

The big changes on the exterior of the Rock Creek Edition include unique dark 18-inch wheels with 255/60R18 all-season tires, a black mesh grille, black roof rails, black door handles, black outside rearview mirrors, black front and rear fascias, black molded fenders and black badging, and unique badging on the front doors.

Inside, the main changes include Rock Creek Edition two-tone seating surfaces, contrast stitching, and metallic trim. This package also includes a standard trailer tow hitch and splash guards. There are two available options on top of the standard Rock Creek Package. The SV Rock Creek Edition Technology Package costs $980 and adds navigation, heated cloth front seats, heated steering wheel and heated outside rearview mirrors. For $2,110, the SL Rock Creek Edition Premium Package adds a 13-speaker Bose audio system and a panoramic moonroof.

This package makes no changes in performance, so the 3.5-liter V6 engine still produces 284 horsepower going out through a CVT with a best-in-class towing capacity of up to 6,000 pounds.
