Just the other day we urged you to get in line for the limited-edition Volvo S60 T8 Polestar Engineered sedan because with only 20 units earmarked for the U.S. market they were unlikely to hang around for very long. Well, our predictions were way off. We suggested that the S60 T8 sedans would sell out in seconds, but it actually took a full 39 minutes. Clearly the declining interest in sporty sedans in favor of SUVs has been somewhat exaggerated.

While the tiny handful of available cars is clearly part of the reason they sold out so quickly, the impressive new 415-hp, 494 lb-ft super and turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powerplant is also partly to blame. The Polestar Engineered tag also means that aside from the increased power, this S60 gets numerous performance enhancing upgrades like larger brakes an uprated suspension and Ohlins shock absorbers. The gold seatbelts, gold-painted calipers and black chrome accents are all hallmarks of the Polestar Engineered range. The sedan could only be ordered using the companies Care by Volvo subscription service, the cost for the T8 S60 is $1,100 per month.

According to Volvo, the level of interest in the car has prompted the automaker to offer a complimentary Polestar Engine Software Optimization upgrade to the next 200 Care by Volvo S60 T6 R-Design subscribers. The good news is that the V60 wagon and XC60 SUV are already earmarked for the Polestar Engineered treatment in the coming year. Let's hope this strong interest in their top performance models persuades Volvo to allocate more than just a few units of these cars for our market.
