Back in April, Audi lifted the wraps off the all-new S6 sports sedan. The catch, however, was that only the European model was revealed, which packs a 3.0-liter diesel V6 mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an electric compressor producing a combined output of 349 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. But now we can finally confirm the specifications of the 2020 Audi S6 that will be available in America.

Audi has confirmed the US version of the S6 will be powered by a twin-turbocharged, 2.9-liter TFSI V6 gasoline engine. Combined with an electric compressor that's powered by a 48-volt mild hybrid system, this setup produces 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, enabling the S6 to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds. For reference, that's 109 more hp than the standard A6, which has a 3.0-liter turbo V6 generating 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. All that power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission that's well suited to the low-end torque of the V6 engine.

Thanks to Audi's standard quattro all-wheel system, torque is actively distributed to both axles for precise handling. The system delivers 60 percent of the torque to the rear axle and 40 percent to the front in regular driving situations. Power can also be redirected to the opposite axle, with up to 70 percent of torque going to the front or up to 85 percent sent to the rear axle when needed. An available quattro sport differential can also enhance the car's cornering agility by actively splitting torque between each of the rear wheels, with the ability to direct nearly all torque to one wheel. Audi is also offering an optional S sport package, which adds dynamic all-wheel steering and can be combined with sport suspensions.

Sporty design elements distinguishing the new S6 include S-model specific bumpers, a platinum double-slat Singleframe grille, and aluminum exterior side mirrors. At the rear, the S6 features four unique tailpipes and a rear diffuser in black chrome matte. As standard, the 2020 Audi S6 rides on 20-inch wheels with summer performance tires.

Inside, there's a heated, 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel bearing an S emblem, Valcona leather S sport seats with diamond stitching, and stainless steel doorsills with an illuminated S logo. An available black optic package adds a black exterior kit with black exterior mirror housings and 21-inch, 5-twin-spoke V-design wheels.

In terms of tech, the 2020 Audi S6 features a full-color head-up display, standard MMI Navigation with an MMI touch response system incorporated into the 10.1-inch upper display and 8.6-inch lower display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and an available Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System. Driver assists include adaptive cruise assist with traffic jam and turn assist, as well as Audi side assist with rear cross-traffic assist and vehicle exit warning.

Pricing for the 2020 Audi S6 starts at $73,900 for the Premium Plus Trim and $77,800 for the Prestige trim plus a $995 destination charge. Availability of the sports sedan hasn't been confirmed yet, however.
