Audi's performance SUVs will make their US debut in late spring.
Based on the flagship Q8 SUV, the Audi RS Q8 is the German automaker's fastest and most powerful SUV yet. Powering this beast is a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 and a mild hybrid system producing 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. As a result, this monster SUV will hit 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and top out at 189.5 mph when equipped with RS ceramic brakes. Not bad for a 4,400-plus-pound SUV.
If you want more power but don't want the full RS treatment, Audi also sells the SQ8 in Europe. Likewise, the Audi SQ7 has also only been available across the pond . This is about to change, however, because Audi has announced the SQ7 and SQ8 are finally coming to the US market in late spring. Hooray!
Under the hood, the SQ7 and SQ8 are equipped with a potent 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that sends 500 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and a standard quattro all-wheel drive system. This setup allows the high-performance SUVs to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds before topping out at 155 mph.
An available quattro sport differential enhances the SUV's cornering capabilities, while standard all-wheel steering that can turn the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the front wheels to enhance low-speed maneuverability and handling, as well as stability at higher speeds.
Distinguishing the 2020 SQ7 and SQ8 are Alu-optic and Black-optic design elements, including air intake blades, side sill blades, standard silver mirror caps and quad exhaust tips. The SQ7 also features an octagonal Singleframe grille and is available with 20- or 21-inch wheels, while the SQ8 features an Alu-optic grille surround and rides on 21-inch wheels as standard or available 22-inch wheels. Inside, the SQ7 and SQ8 get standard front S sport seats with heating and ventilation, as well as cross-stiched leather unique to the S models.
US pricing for the Audi SQ7 and SQ8 will be announced closer to the on-sale date in late spring. Since it slots between the Q8 and RS Q8, expect the SQ8 to cost between $67,400 and $141,000.
