Officially revealed last month at the 2019 LA Auto Show, BMW has just announced pricing for its 2020 M2 CS. If you thought the BMW M2 Competition was expensive at $59,895 then just wait. The 2020 BMW M2 CS is priced at $84,595, including the 995 destination fee. That's a huge premium over the M2 Competition. In fact, the M2 CS costs nearly the same as the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, which starts at $84,900.

But the M2 CS is very different from the M2 Competition.

For starters, it comes powered by the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six S55 engine also found in the larger M4 Coupe and Convertible. In the M2 CS, it produces a total of 444 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual transmission. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is one of the very few options.

For the record, the M2 CS has an extra 39 hp over the M2 Competition. Other standard items found include an adaptive M suspension, carbon-fiber reinforced plastic exterior components, M Compound brakes, and 19-nch Forged Y-spoke wheels finished in high-gloss jet black.

Aside from the DCT, options include bigger carbon-ceramic brakes, gold matt finish wheels, and sticker Michelin Cup 2 performance tires. To help reduce weight, the M2 CS has a carbon fiber roof, hood, center console, front and rear spoilers, rear diffuser and mirrors. With only a few added options, it's safe to assume pricing could exceed $100,000.

Production is set to get underway in March with deliveries beginning later in 2020. Speaking of which, only 2,200 examples are planned globally and BMW has not clarified how many are US-bound. Chances are the final tally will be a few hundred, thus making the new M2 CS an instant collectible.
