Those hoping to see a heavily updated Chevrolet Colorado for model year 2020 will have to wait at least one more year. Details for the 2020 Colorado are now available and while there's no facelift, minor updates have been made to the packaging. There were some previous rumors claiming Chevrolet planned to heavily update its popular mid-size pickup truck for next year, especially in light of new competition from cross-town rival Ford with its reborn Ranger. There's also the new Jeep Gladiator.

This facelift will happen because it has to. The current generation Colorado launched as an early 2015 model and updates ever since have been relatively minor. Okay, so what's new and different for the 2020 Chevy Colorado? Honestly, not a whole lot, as GM Authority discovered.

Exterior styling and powertrains are carried over from 2019. More specific changes include a remote locking tailgate that's now optional on the Work Truck trim, which is standard on the LT, Z71, and ZR2 models. All Colorados will receive the Tire Fill Alert technology and LT models will now have the EZ-lift tailgate as standard fare. The 2WD Z71 Extended Cab and 2WD Z71 Crew Cab Long Box combos, however, have been discontinued.

The biggest interior changes are the deletion of the Jet Black/Dark Ash interior and the replacement of the Chevrolet Infotainment Premium system with Navigation with the Chevrolet Infotainment Plus System with Navigation. If you want an LT model with a Jet Black Leather interior you'll need to check the box for the Luxury Package and Crew Cab body style.

In regards to packages, the biggest and certainly most welcome change is that the Safety Package, which includes Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning, is now offered on Z71 models. The RS Luxury Special Edition and Redline Luxury Special Edition Packages have been discontinued while the Chrome Luxury Package is now called the Luxury Package. It's offered only on Crew Cab models. Both the Redline Special Edition and Colorado RST Special Editions can also be combined with the Luxury Package.

Pricing for the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado will be announced in the near future.
