Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2020 Corvette Stingray coupe last month, the first Corvette to adopt a mid-engine layout. But as we all know, this won't be the only version of the C8 Corvette you can buy for very long.

We're eagerly anticipating the new Z06 and hardcore ZR1 variants, which will take the Corvette to new extremes. But before they arrive, Chevrolet will launch a convertible version of the Stingray. Chevrolet provided a brief preview of the new Convertible in a recent teaser video, but this new spy video gives us a closer look.

Filmed by YouTuber Brendan Macie, the C8 Corvette convertible was spotted in a Detroit parking lot with minimal camouflage applied to the roof and rear decklid. Visually, it looks identical to the coupe, apart from the rear buttresses and folding hardtop roof. The C8 Corvette convertible caught on video also appears to be finished in Sebring Orange. We get a good look at the leather interior, too.

Under the hood, the C8 Corvette convertible will likely use the same 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine as the coupe, which sends 490 horsepower to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Later in the video, an employee at the GM Tech Center drives the droptop Corvette away, allowing us to hear its growling V8 in all its glory.

Chevrolet hasn't confirmed performance specifications for the C8 Corvette yet. The automaker says the coupe will hit 0-62 mph in under three seconds, but the driver allegedly revealed to the YouTuber that the convertible will do the same sprint in 2.7 seconds, which is insanely quick considering this is technically the entry-level model. Just imagine how fast the range-topping ZR1 will be off the line.

We don't have an exact date for the C8 Corvette convertible's debut yet, but Chevrolet says it will be revealed this fall alongside the new C8.R race car.
