Most three-row SUVs are concerned simply with getting the family from point A to point B as comfortably as possible, but the Dodge Durango SRT is a different beast altogether. That probably has something to do with the 475-horsepower HEMI V8 lump under the hood, ensuring that you and your brood will never be late for the kids' soccer matches and recitals ever again.

Now, Dodge has upped the drama of its powerful SUV even more with the availability of two new custom options: the Black appearance package and the Redline Stripe. As the names dictate, both packages add a variety of upgrades to the Durango's exterior and, well, let's just say that they're anything but subtle.

Starting with the Black appearance package, it hikes up the drama with a range of Midnight Grey Metallic and Gloss Black exterior accents. These include an SRT grille badge, Durango liftgate badge, and SRT liftgate badge in Midnight Grey, along with 20-inch Matte Vapor wheels. The mirror caps get Gloss Black detailing, the exhaust pipes feature an Eclipse Black tint, and there's a special Satin Black taillamp applique. This package carries an MSRP of $1,495, but Dodge is confident that it'll prove popular.

"Last year, 25 percent of Durango SXT buyers chose the Blacktop package," said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars. "That jumped to more than 60 percent on the Durango R/T. Now, this new SRT-exclusive Black package gives SRT buyers an even more exclusive look and they can order it when they order their vehicle at the dealership."

The Redline Stripe is also reserved as an option on the fire-breathing SRT. Available for $1,295, its list of extras is not as comprehensive as the Black package and amounts to a full-length Satin Black center stripe with Redline Red accent tracers on the edges. The Durango SRT Black with the Redline stripe will be displayed at the upcoming 2020 Chicago Auto Show from February 8 to 17.

Obviously, it's Dodge's hope that most SRT buyers opting for one of these upgrades will tick the box for the other one, too, which they'll be able to do when dealers begin accepting orders in March 2020. The new SRT-specific packages add to four appearance options and five stripe options already available on the cheaper Durango models.

While some would call the upgrades garish, we think there's something weirdly appealing and rebellious about blasting to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds in a dressed-up family SUV while the neighbors trundle around in their Camrys.
