Honda's new CR-V hybrid is cheaper than its main competitor.

Last year, Honda finally lifted the wraps off America's 2020 CR-V Hybrid around a year after its European counterpart debuted. With sales about to kick off, the Japanese automaker has announced pricing details for the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Arriving in dealers on March 1, the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid LX starts $27,750, while the EX trim starts at $30,260.

Moving up the range, the CR-V Hybrid EX-L will set you back at least $32,750 and the range-topping Touring trim starts at $35,950. All prices exclude the $1,120 destination charge, but the $27,750 MSRP makes the 2020 CR-V Hybrid cheaper than its chief competitor, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which starts at $28,350.

Powering the CR-V Hybrid is the same electrified powertrain as the Honda Accord Hybrid, which utilizes a 2.0-liter, 16-valve Atkinson cycle engine and two electric motors to produce 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. Three driving modes are available designed to help maximize power or fuel efficiency including Sport, EV and ECON.

An AWD system with Honda's Intelligent Control System is also offered as standard, which determines when to send torque to the rear wheels depending on the available traction. When this system isn't required, an electronically controlled clutch deactivates power delivery to the rear wheels to improve fuel efficiency.

Speaking of fuel efficiency, the EPA has rated the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid's economy at 40/35/38 mpg city/highway/combined regardless of the trim. While the CR-V Hybrid is cheaper, it's less economical than the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which is rated at 41/38/40 mpg city/highway/combined.

As standard, the 2020 CR-V Hybrid comes with the Honda Sensing advanced safety and driver-assist package that includes a collision mitigation braking system with forward collision warning and pedestrian sensing capability, road departure mitigation with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow and lane-keeping assist. Optionally available driver assists include blind spot information, rear cross-traffic monitor and auto high beam headlights.
