Although not everyone is a fan, the Kia Soul subcompact crossover has been a huge success for the South Korean automaker ever since it first debuted back in 2009. Yes, the Soul has been around for nearly a decade and the completely redesigned third-generation is scheduled to debut next week at the LA Auto Show.

Over the past few days, Kia has released some teaser images of its hot-selling crossover and today, just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we've been given our best teaser to date. This side view silhouette reveals a lot, mainly its general shape, which is definitely less boxy than previous generations.

Combined with the sleek new headlight design, the new Soul appears to have, well, more soul than ever. Along with the narrower headlights and chrome trim, even the taillight design has a generally cleaner and more premium look. We've also been told the two-tone paint job option will return, as will a number of styling options for greater personalization.

Set to ride on the same platform as the Hyundai Kona, the 2020 Soul will likely be powered by the Kona's 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter inline fours. There will also be a turbocharged option and an all-electric version. Chances are, it too will adopt the Kona EV's basic underpinnings.

As with all new Kias, the Soul's interior is expected to be heavily upgraded with better quality materials and improved fit and finish. Although Kia and its sister brand Hyundai have fallen behind the competition for larger, three-row crossovers, they still hold a significant market share for subcompact, compact, and mid-size crossovers. The 2020 Kia Soul has to be a smashing sales success and we have every reason to believe it will be. We'll be on hand next week at LA to bring you additional details and plenty of photos.
