We're used to seeing price increases for yearly model updates, so it comes as a pleasant surprise to find that Maserati's 2020 model year lineup has received a significant price cut. And not just by a few hundred dollars, either. The 2020 Maserati Ghibli, for example, will start at $70,985, making it $5,490 cheaper than the 2019 model, while the 2020 Maserati Levante will start at $74,485, which is $2,990 less than the 2019 model. The 2020 Maserati Quattroporte, on the other hand, starts at $101,485, making it $8,190 cheaper than last year's model.

It's an unprecedented move, but then Maserati needs to do something to improve its poor sales. The Italian automaker desperately needs to update its existing lineup or introduce a new model, but these price cuts could help boost sales in the meantime.

As well as slashing prices, Maserati is also introducing a new special edition range for the 2020 model year lineup. Dubbed the Edizione Ribelle series (that's Italian for 'rebel'), Maserati's new special edition models will be limited to just 225 units and arrive in North American showrooms at the end of March 2020. The limited series will include 100 Ghibli S, 100 Levante S, and 25 Quattroporte S models, in the GranSport trim.

Distinguishing Maserati's Ribelle range is a Nero Ribelle Mica paint job and a Nerissimo Package featuring black chrome finishing on the grille upper bezel trim, rear trunk accent, side air vents, Maserati badges on the C-pillars and the Maserati logo, and the model, engine and vehicle name on the rear of each model. The window surrounds, exhaust tips, vertical grille bars and 20-inch wheels with contrasting red brake calipers also get the black treatment.

Inside, the interior features premium two-tone leather sport seats in black and red with contrasting stitching. Alcantara headliner, trident stitched headrests, and carbon fiber trim applied to the center console, door and dashboard inserts further enhance the luxurious interior. A Harman Kardon Audio Systems premium sound system is also included along with a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Special "one of 100" badging on the carbon fiber center console highlights the model's exclusivity.

For the 2020 model year, Maserati's models now include soft-close doors, heated steering wheels, and the driver assistance package as standard.
