Ironically, it's been leaked by Mercedes.
Mercedes-AMG recently lifted the wraps off the stylish 2020 CLA35 at the 2019 New York Auto Show, but we already know a larger, more powerful CLA 45 is coming thanks to recent sightings of camouflaged prototypes. However, Mercedes-AMG may have shown off the 2020 CLA 45 earlier than it intended.
An eagle-eyed Auto Build reader was browsing the configurator for the CLA 35 when they accidentally found what appears to be an image of the CLA 45 completely undisguised. Selecting the Night Appearance package brings up an image of a yellow CLA 35's rear but clicking the "i" button to find out more information about the package reveals a second image showing the higher-spec CLA 45.
We only get to see the rear of the 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, but the most obvious change is the quad tailpipes where the CLA 45 uses a dual exhaust system. Elsewhere, we can see the CLA 45 will come with five-spoke alloy wheels and a high-performance braking system with red calipers. Other than that, the CLA 45 looks very similar to its CLA 35 sibling, as both models sport a ventilated rear bumper, a trunk-mounted spoiler, and a sporty diffuser.
Under the hood, reports suggest the stylish sedan will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine in two states of tune, with the standard CLA 45 offering 383 hp, while the more powerful CLA 45 S will allegedly have 416 hp on tap. Like the A45, the range-topping CLA will also be offered with a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system linked to an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will even include the A45 hatchback's awesome drift mode if you fancy doing some sideways driving.
While the leak suggests a reveal could be imminent, we may still have to wait a few months for the covers to come off the 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 since the CLA 45 was only unveiled last month.
