Before the Fast and Furious movies focused on physics-defying car stunts, 2003's action-comedy Bad Boys 2 featured one of the wildest and most over-the-top movie car chase scenes ever filmed. Directed by Michael Bay and starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the film is remembered for its destructive freeway chase, in which Smith drives a Ferrari 550 Maranello in pursuit of a hijacked car transporter.

Much mayhem ensues as cars are thrown off the transporter and tumble down the highway. It's spectacular stuff with minimal use of CGI. Love him or hate him, Michael Bay is a master of directing high-octane action scenes. 16 years later (yes it really has been that long), Bad Boys 2 is finally getting a sequel.

Titled 'Bad Boys for Life,' Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett, two wisecracking cops who team up to take down the leader of a Miami drug cartel. According to the plot synopsis, "Marcus Burnett is now a police inspector and Mike Lowery is in a midlife crisis. They unite again when an Albanian mercenary, whose brother they killed, promises them an important bonus." Of course, it's all just an excuse to feature some explosive action scenes.

The first action-packed trailer for Bad Boys for Life has dropped, and it looks like it's going to be a fun ride. Smith's character has traded his Ferrari 550 for a blue 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, which we get to see tear through a shopping mall. This could be a nod to the original 1995 film, which featured a black Porsche 911 Turbo chasing down an AC Cobra down a runway. There's also a separate scene involving the duo speeding down a highway in pursuit of a helicopter on a motorcycle with a machine gun mounted on the sidecar.

Whereas Michael Bay directed the first two films, Bad Boys for Life is directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah and releases in cinemas on January 17, 2020.
