Ford has further upped its game in the commercial truck sector with the arrival of the 2020 Super Duty Chassis Cabs. The big news - quite literally - is an all-new gas-powered 7.3-liter V8 with outputs of 350 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque. According to Ford, that torque figure is best-in-class for a gas engine. Together with a third-generation 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel V8 with 330 hp and 825 lb-ft (75 lb-ft more than before) at its disposal, the latest Super Duty trucks are ready to get to work.

Built for the harshest conditions, a maximum payload of 12,750 pounds (nearly double the payload of the F-350 Super Duty) will see the big Ford being able to haul just about anything you can throw at it. Both engines are paired with a new heavy-duty ten-speed TorqShift automatic transmission. Available with live drive power takeoff, the ten-bolt power take-off provision can achieve 300 lb-ft of stationary torque. Uses for such a system include powering a blower system that moves materials like cement or operating the winch on a tow truck.

With the Ford Super Duty Chassis Cabs holding a strong 65.6 percent share of the US market (commercial truck class 2-5 registrations), the latest upgrades are sure to maintain its dominance. According to the manufacturer, this success is as a result of carefully monitoring actual customer needs. "We don't operate in a vacuum in Ford commercial trucks," said Nathan Oscarson, commercial truck marketing manager. "We talk to the customers, dealers, and upfitters who know how hard our trucks are worked. That kind of real-world feedback helps us engineer the level of commercial trucks that the industry demands."

To go along with the brawny mechanicals, the chassis cabs also get plenty of technology that matters to fleet operators. The new Ford Telematics and Data Services have multiple benefits such as promoting better driver behavior, safeguarding vehicles, and improving running costs.

Also available are crucial driver-assist features like pre-collision assist with automated emergency braking, along with audible lane departure warning. These systems can significantly reduce the likelihood of an accident. While these features - along with 4G LTE Wi-Fi for up to ten devices - are undoubtedly appealing, the updated Super Duty Chassis Cabs from Ford will continue to be highlighted by its towering capabilities in the demanding commercial sector.

The durable chassis cabs are available for purchase today but, for even greater payload capacity, the F-600 Super Duty Chassis Cab will make its way to the market later in 2020.
