The electric Audi e-tron has expanded with the debut of the more powerful e-tron S and e-tron Sportback S. We're also still waiting for the production version of the Audi e-tron GT to break cover. But Audi's electric onslaught won't stop there. Previewed by a concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi Q4 e-tron will essentially be Audi's version of the Volkswagen ID.4 and rival the Tesla Model Y, giving it the potential to be Audi's best-selling EV.

While our previous sighting of an Audi Q4 e-tron prototype was a test mule that looked like the Volkswagen ID.4, this is the real deal. Our spy photographers have managed to snap some photographs of a pre-production Audi Q4 e-tron that was caught testing on public roads.

The Audi Q4 e-tron will share the same Modular Electrification Platform as the Volkswagen ID.4. Despite being covered in camouflage, we can already see that the production Q4 e-tron will look a lot like the 2019 concept, as the headlights, front bumper, and design lines look very similar.

In terms of proportions, the Audi Q4 e-tron will slot in between the Q3 and Q5 but will have more cabin space than the larger Q5. It will also be slightly smaller than the current e-tron. Powertrain details haven't been confirmed, but the Audi Q4 e-tron Concept should give us an idea of what to expect.

When it debuted last year, the conceptual electric crossover was powered by two electric motors generating a combined 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. An 82-kWh battery pack mounted under the floor provided a range of over 280 miles, but this could improve in the production model as the technology evolves. With this setup, the Q4 e-tron concept could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 112 mph.

Production of the Audi Q4 e-tron will take place in Zwickau, Germany. While the even-numbered Q models from Audi generally represent coupe-styled models, we suspect there may be a genuine Sportback version of the Q4 e-tron at a later date.
