It's going to be a long wait for America's updated Audi RS3 Sedan.
The refreshed 2021 Audi A3 Sedan was revealed back in March, and we've been anticipating the arrival of the updated RS3 ever since. Prototypes of the upcoming Audi RS3 hatchback have already been spied, but this will be forbidden fruit in America.
Back in March, Audi was caught testing America's RS3 Sedan in the snow, and now prototype testing has moved to the Nurburgring, where we can get a clearer look at the new hardcore performance sedan in action. Compared to the RS3 hot hatch, the RS3 sedan is still cloaked in copious amounts of camouflage, suggesting that development is at a later stage than the hatchback.
However, it's clear that the RS3 looks more aggressive than its standard A3 Sedan sibling, as it can be seen sporting wider fenders and a front bumper with larger air intakes. All of the styling changes introduced in the 2021 model year facelift will also carry over, from the standard LED headlights and redesigned taillights, to the wider grille. Likewise, the interior will also get a significant tech update with a larger 10.1-inch infotainment system, a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and an optional head-up display.
As for the powertrain, the 2021 Audi RS3 will most likely utilize a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo engine producing around 400 horsepower.
This unit produces 394 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque in the current Audi RS3 and is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and a Quattro all-wheel drive system.
It's still a mystery when the Audi RS3 facelift will break cover. Logic dictates the 2021 Audi S3 will be revealed first, followed by the more hardcore RS3 update possibly later this year. It's going to be a long wait for US customers, however, as Audi recently confirmed the standard Audi A3 Sedan facelift won't arrive in America until late 2021 and go on sale for the 2022 model year.
