After updating the standard Bentayga V8 and the high-performance Bentayga Speed, Bentley has given the Bentayga Hybrid a facelift for the 2021 model year. This will be one of two new plug-in hybrid models Bentley will launch this year as part of the company's Beyond100 strategy. Chances are this will become Bentley's biggest seller in the Bentayga range.

"The Bentayga Hybrid is the next step on our journey to becoming the world's leading sustainable luxury mobility company," said Adrian Hallmark, CEO of Bentley. "Bentley will transform from a 100-year-old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury, and the Bentayga Hybrid is the first model to pioneer our company's recently announced Beyond100 strategy."

Aesthetically, the exterior has been refreshed to give the luxury electrified SUV a more contemporary and consistent look across the range. While the changes are subtle, Bentley claims every panel at the front and rear has been altered. At the front, the 2021 Bentayga Hybrid sports a larger and more upright matrix grille, allowing the hood to sweep down to the edge of the chrome work. The new, slimmer LED headlights are also positioned further apart and 1.18 inches higher, while the cut crystal design makes the lights appear to sparkle even when not lit.

Elsewhere, the rear has been revamped with new elliptical taillights matching the design of Continental GT's rear lights, a full-width tailgate, and a repositioned license plate to make room for more prominent Bentley lettering. An available Blackline Specification replaces the exterior chrome with black elements for a more sinister style.

While the Bentayga already has a reputation for being one of the most opulent SUVs on the market, the cabin has been modernized for the 2021 Bentayga Hybrid with a new steering wheel, new door trims, and a redesigned center console. The new seats are more comfortable than ever and can be configured with a five-seat or four-seat layout, with the latter incorporating two individual rear seats separated by a center console.

Occupants benefit from a 1.18 increase in knee room in the upright seat position and almost four inches in the reclined position. Like the new Continental GT and Flying Spur, the updated Bentayga Hybrid incorporates a new fully digital and customizable instrument panel that changes depending on if the SUV is being driven in EV mode or with combustion power.

In EV mode, a battery status dial replaces the coolant temperature gauge. A larger 10.9-inch touchscreen with standard Wireless Apple CarPlay support for the first time rounds off the interior changes.

Under the hood, the 2021 Bentayga is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine supplemented with a 126-hp electric motor. Combined, this setup generates 443 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, while delivering a combined driving range of 536 miles and 31 miles of pure electric range at speeds up to 84 mph based on NEDC ratings. Bentley claims the 17.3 kWh lithium battery can be charged to 100 percent in two and a half hours when charged at a maximum rate of 7.2kW.

US pricing and availability will be announced at a later date, but expect the 2021 Bentayga Hybrid to cost around $160,000.
