2021 Cadillac Escalade Diesel Is Shockingly Affordable

In fact, it costs NOTHING!

For the first time in the model's 21 year history, the new 2021 Cadillac Escalade will be offered with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine. The same powerplant will also be offered in the new Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. It's a surprising move when most automakers have abandoned diesel engines in the US after the infamous VW dieselgate scandal, but Cadillac is confident the diesel-powered Escalade will be a popular choice for customers who want better fuel economy.

Here's some more good news for diesel lovers. After revealing pricing details for the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, we have learned from local dealers that the diesel-powered 2021 Cadillac Escalade will be available as a no-cost option.

That means it won't cost any more than the standard 2021 Cadillac Escalade, which is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter turbo-diesel, on the other hand, is rated at 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of which engine you choose, power is sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Official fuel economy figures for the diesel-powered 2021 Cadillac Escalade haven't been released yet, but Cadillac marketing manager Dave Schiavone has claimed it will boast "significant" improvements over the V8 version. More details will no doubt be shared closer to the 2021 Cadillac Escalade's on-sale date later this year, providing the SUV's launch doesn't get delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

This won't be the most efficient version of the luxury SUV, however, as Cadillac is also developing a fully electric Escalade. Pricing for the V8 and diesel-powered 2021 Cadillac Escalade starts at $76,195 excluding the destination charge, which is only $1,000 more expensive than the outgoing model.

The Sport trim level, on the other hand, will set you back at least $85,595, while the Premium Luxury trim starts at $85,695 when equipped with the Performance Package. Topping the range is the Platinum trim, which will be available as an optional package for the Premium Luxury and Sport trims starting at $101,745.
