2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Arrives With New Colors

Ford reveals 2021 Stangs with changes across the board.

The Ford Mustang is an icon of American automotive culture. One of our favorite models from 2020 was the Bullit, but with that car's production coming to an end, one of the best retro Mustangs around is no more. But fear not - updates to the 2021 model year include the return of the iconic Mach 1 nameplate, and we're very excited. 17 years since the iconic name was last seen on a Mustang, it returns with a whole lot of awesome upgrades over the regular car. But don't worry if the Mach 1 is out of reach - the regular Mustang has been updated too.

As standard, EcoBoost and GT models will now come with Ford Co-Pilot360 driver aids, including auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and forward collision assist with pedestrian detection. But don't think that the GT500 is staying the same as last year. Even this astonishing model is being upgraded and will now be offered with the Carbon Fiber Handling package.

This package is a nice alternative to those who find the Handling package too tame and the Carbon Fiber Track Pack too extreme. Oh, and it does come with the carbon wheels - they're just painted now. Speaking of paint, the Mustang range now gets access to Antimatter Blue, Carbonized Gray, and Grabber Yellow.

But what you really wanna know about is what the Mach 1 is offering.

Positioned between GT and Shelby models, this limited-edition model boasts a "specially calibrated 5.0-liter V8 engine" with 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed Tremec will be standard with rev-matching while the 10-speed auto will be an option. New grilles including one with a deep 3D mesh are joined by a new low-gloss Magnetic pony badge, a new front splitter, and a matched rear spoiler. These upgrades help it generate 22 percent more downforce than a GT model (150 percent with the Handling package). Unique chassis tuning, MagneRide suspension, and new 19-inch wheels are also added.

You also get stiffer sway bars and front springs, Michelin PS4 rubber, and stiffer rear subframe bushings. Add the Handling package and you'll get Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, adjustable strut top mounts, a splitter offering more downforce, and rear tire spats. Also included are Satin Black hood stripes with reflective accent stripes. Colors include Mach 1-exclusive Fighter Jet Gray (only offered with the Appearance package), Iconic Silver, Shadow Black, Oxford White, Velocity Blue, Twister Orange, Race Red, and Grabber Yellow. Inside, Ebony seats with an accent stripe and an instrument panel in Dark Spindrift with aluminum accents add more nostalgia alongside a white cue ball shift knob. It all looks brilliant, and we can't wait to get our hands on these new Stangs.
