2021 Jeep Gladiator Willys Edition Is An Off-Road Bargain

Offbeat / Comments

At least when compared to the Gladiator Rubicon.

As we all know, a fully-loaded Jeep Gladiator is not cheap. In fact, the average retail price of a new Gladiator comes to around $55,000 and yet none of this deters buyers. But there have been enough voices out there requesting Jeep to do something where some of the truck's best off-roading features can be repackaged in a less expensive trim. That day has arrived.

Meet the 2021 Jeep Gladiator Willys Edition, a trim we first heard about last summer and whose full details and official photos are now available. Basically, Jeep has taken some of the Gladiator Rubicon's coolest features for off-roading purposes and presented them in a less expensive trim, complete with some black trim.

The Sport S based Gladiator Willys specifically receives the Rubicon's cab rock rails and shocks and beefy-looking 32-inch BF Goodrich KM2 mud terrain tires. It also gets a locking rear differential. Jeep's Command-Trac 4x4 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio is also standard fare. The Willys Edition also stands out thanks to a Willys hood decal, retro-looking 4WD tailgate decal, 17-inch black aluminum wheels with gray pad print, and a gloss black grille.

The interior boasts -all-weather slush mats and the Technology Group package with a 7-inch radio. Power comes from the familiar and proven 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Eight exterior colors are also on hand: Black, Granite Crystal, Sting Gray, Billet, Firecracker Red, White, Hydro Blue, and Snazzberry.

Sounds pretty good, right? Okay, so what about pricing? The Gladiator Willys carries a starting price of $36,760, including destination. To compare, the Rubicon can't be had for less than $45,615. "Building on the widely popular Wrangler Willys, we're thrilled to announce the Willys model is joining the Gladiator lineup as another way for Jeep to connect with our customers," said Jim Morrison, head of Jeep for North America. "Gladiator Willys models harken back to the original Jeep lineup while offering an aggressive look and additional increased capability."

The 2021 Gladiator Willys Edition is currently on sale at dealerships nationwide.
