At the start of the year, Jeep revealed a new three-row variant of the Grand Cherokee. Dubbed the 2021 Grand Cherokee L, it will slot above the standard Grand Cherokee but below the new flagship Grand Wagoneer model. No official starting price was announced during the SUV's launch, but Jeep mistakenly posted pricing information before taking it down.

The American brand is finally ready to reveal official pricing information, and it's a bit different than the leaked numbers. There are four trim levels available (plus two sub-packages), starting with the Laredo for $36,995 with rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive for $38,995. At this price, the Grand Cherokee L is roughly $7,000 more than last year's two-row Grand Cherokee.

The base model uses a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine producing 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque. Higher up the trim levels, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is available with 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. All prices exclude a $1,695 destination charge.

Stepping up to the Altitude trim costs $40,195 ($42,195 with 4x4) while the Limited starts at $43,995 ($45,995 with 4x4). The Overland trim is $52,995 ($54,995 with 4x4), and this is the first model to include an optional V8 with 4x4 for $58,290. For $56,995 ($58,995 with 4x4), the Summit trim can be upgraded to a V8 (with 4x4) as well for $62,290. The top Summit Reserve trim can only be optioned with 4x4, starting at $61,995 for the V6 or $65,290 for the V8.

Even the base Grand Cherokee L comes well-equipped with a standard 8.4-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. The Altitude adds black exterior accents plus remote start, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, adjustable height liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, a 115-volt power outlet, and third-row USB ports. Starting with the Overland 4x4, an Off-Road Group adds a Trail Rated Quadra-Drive II system, high-strength steel skid plates, electronic limited-slip differential rear axle, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and all-season tires.

Jeep says the top Summit Reserve Package "sets the benchmark for luxury in the full-size SUV segment." This model includes niceties such as hand-wrapped, quilted Palermo leather, ventilated front and second-row seats, memory and massage front seats, Waxed Walnut wood, and a 19-speaker McIntosh audio sound system.

The Grand Cherokee L arrives in dealerships in the second quarter of 2021, with the standard Grand Cherokee and a 4xe electrified version coming later this year.
