There have been numerous spy shots showing the 2021 Kia Sorento out testing, looking close to production-ready. But before Kia had a chance to announce its latest crossover, leaked photos showed the Sorento completely undisguised (including a shot of the interior) in what looks to be production guise. The photos were not high-quality but thanks to our spy photographers, we now have an even better look at Kia's latest crossover.

These images were taken during a photoshoot in California, showing the new Sorento (in Korean spec) sporting a lovely new shade of blue. Kia wasn't too thrilled to spot anyone taking pictures of the vehicle, with the production assistant even shouting they would "tackle your ass if you don't stop," at the photographer. Nevertheless, no one was tackled, and at the end of it all we do have our best look yet at the Sorento.

Instead of designing the new Sorento as a "baby-Telluride" with rugged flavor, Kia has given its smaller mid-size crossover a unique look all of its own. There is a slight resemblance in the front fascia to Kia's new Seltos crossover but the rear looks completely different from all other Kia models. Like the Telluride, the new Sorrento wears its name across the rear tailgate, though it does not feature the name on the hood like its larger sibling.

We expect this new Sorento to use the Hyundai Motor Group's new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing around 290 horsepower but if we zoom in closer on the rear tailgate of this Sorento, we see what appears to be Kia's 'Eco Hybrid' badge, the same one used on the Niro. Reports suggest the Sorrento will debut in Korea later this month, which is why Kia was likely conducting a photoshoot. The US-spec model may arrive later this year sporting a few engine options including a hybrid variant.
