Find out what's new in the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport.
For the 2020 model year, the Land Rover Discovery Sport was redesigned with new LED headlights and taillights, a larger grille, and revised front and rear bumpers. As Land Rover's best-selling model, it's important that the Discovery Sport continues to evolve. For 2021, Land Rover has updated the Discovery Sport with new engine options, updated interior technology, and a new special edition.
Following the launch of the new Discovery Sport P300e plug-in hybrid earlier this year, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is available with a four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine featuring 48-volt mild-hybrid technology and regenerative braking for "smoother stop-start operation and optimized fuel economy". Replacing the previous non-electrified diesel engines, the new, more efficient mild-hybrid diesel unit is available with 162 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque or 197 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, and has a fuel economy rating of 44.7 mpg.
Paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission, this setup enables the 197-hp Discovery Sport to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds. US engine options haven't been confirmed yet, however.
As standard, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport comes equipped with Land Rover's new advanced Pivi infotainment system with support for wireless over-the-air software updates and a redesigned menu system. For the first time, the Spotify music streaming app is integrated within the infotainment menu and two phones can be connected via Bluetooth. A Pivi Pro system is also available with built-in navigation. In addition, Land Rover's wearable Activity Key has been updated with an LCD screen, allowing owners to unlock any door, lock or start the engine when near the vehicle.
Other technology updates include a cabin air filtration system and new driver assists including a rear traffic monitor with automatic emergency braking, rear collision monitor, and a 3D surround camera. Rounding off the updates is a new special edition model.
Based on the R-Dynamic S trim, the Discovery Sport Black Edition is available in five exterior colors: Namib Orange, Carpathian Grey, Firenze Red, Yulong White, and new Hakuba Silver. A Black Pack adds a contrasting roof in black or grey, 20-inch alloy wheels in gloss black or diamond-turned finish and red brake calipers. Inside, the cabin is offered with a choice of Luxtec Suedecloth trim or grained leather, titanium mesh finishers, and a leather steering wheel.
Under the hood, the Discovery Sport Black Edition is the only model available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 286 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. 0-62 mph in the Discovery Sport Black Edition takes seven seconds.
In the UK, the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is available to order starting at £31,915 ($41,972).
