Lexus builds some of the best Japanese luxury cars around and is only getting better at what it does as time goes by. The perfect example of Lexus' evolution is the redesigned 2021 Lexus IS which first showed its face in June this year. The 2021 IS features fresh new styling, new tech, and a more engaging driving experience. It's a great looking car, but as is the way of things in Japan, the aftermarket scene has already started offering body-styling kits for it.
Toyota Racing Development, better known as TRD, and Modellista, a well-known styling company working with Toyota have brought out two kits for the "new" IS, and they look kind of awesome.
TRD has gone for an OEM plus look that highlights the sharp lines of the IS whilst making it look even more aggressive. The kit consists of a front spoiler, aerodynamic mirror covers, side skirts, a sports exhaust and aggressive rear diffuser. Not only does this kit look good, but TRD actually increases performance with some added chassis bracing, performance suspension, and balanced forge alloy wheels. The IS gets front, center and rear underbody bracing, and the performance dampers have been co-developed by Yamaha for improved cornering ability without ruining ride comfort. The 20-inch forged wheels are lighter than the stock set with a total weight of 12.1 kilograms per wheel.
Modellista on the other hand has taken a more relaxed and "classy" approach. The Modellista kit consists of a front wing spoiler, side skirts, a rear skirt, and sporty exhaust exit, as well as a trunk spoiler, and custom 19-inch alloy wheels. This kit is clearly aimed at a more mature market and features lots of chrome and soft lines to accentuate the Lexus' already bold lines. It is unlikely that these kits will make their way to the US in any significant numbers, and pricing is only available upon request, but they are definitely worth it, especially that TRD kit.
