But is it worth more?
At long last, Mazda finally answered enthusiast's prayers to stick a turbocharger in the compact Mazda3. The 2021 Mazda3 hatchback and 2021 Mazda3 sedan now come with an optionally 2.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using premium fuel or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. Mazda revealed the updated car with just a few shadowy photos, but now, the Japanese automaker has given more details, including pricing, as well as a couple of new snaps.
The Mazda3 2.5 Turbo, which includes all-wheel-drive, starts at $29,900 for the sedan and $30,900 for the hatchback. For the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo w/ Premium Plus, the prices rise to $32,450 and $33,750, respectively. For reference, the current Volkswagen Golf GTI starts at $28,595 and goes up to $37,295 for the Autobahn trim with a DSG transmission.
On top of the base price, buyers can also select one of two available Aero Kits for the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo hatchback, which makes the car look more aggressive. With the Premium Plus Package, the front air dam and rear roof spoiler come standard while rear diffuser and side sill extensions cost $1,075. All four aero elements, including the air dam, roof spoiler, rear diffuser extension, and side sill extensions, can be added to the non-Premium Plus Package for $1,900.
All Mazda3 models will also be available with new BBS 18-inch gloss black forged wheels. The wheels cost $918.95, but that is per wheel, so you'll have to pay $3,675.80 for all four.
Mazda also revealed pricing for the non-turbo Mazda3 models, including the new 2.0-liter base engine. The Mazda3 2.0, which only comes as a sedan, starts at $20,500, making it the cheapest model in the Mazda3 range. As a reminder, the base engine produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque going out to the front wheels only. The Mazda3 2.5 S starts at $21,500 for the sedan or 22,500 for the hatchback and the price goes up from there.
All MSRPs exclude a $945 destination and handling fee plus $595 for Soul Red Crystal paint, $495 for Machine Gray Metallic, or $395 for Snowflake White Pearl Mica. The Mazda3 2.5 Turbo is expected to arrive in dealerships by the end of 2020.
