Anyone who thought people would refuse to spend $90k on a hardcore off-road pickup truck is flat-out wrong. All 702 examples of the Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition, each carrying a price tag of $90,265, have officially sold out. It only took three hours for this to happen. To compare, the TRX normally begins at a still hefty $70,000, but forking over another 20 grand wasn't an issue for some. Still, a fully-loaded truck will set you back over $100k.

"The groundswell of demand for our all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition validates our efforts to bring the fastest, quickest, most powerful pickup truck to market," said Mike Koval Jr., Head of Ram Brand. "We said the Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition would go fast. And we meant that in more ways than one."

The TRX Launch Edition is powered by the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 702 hp (hence the build number) and 650 lb-ft of torque with no performance benefits over the $70k "base" truck, on- or off-road. What it does come with is exclusive Anvil Gray paint and a red and brushed-aluminum center console badge identifying its Launch Edition status.

Aside from those cosmetic touches, it comes standard with the TRX Level 2 Equipment Group, meaning bits like carbon-fiber interior trim, a color accent package, head-up display, beadlock-capable wheels, 19-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and bodyside graphics are all included.

Other standard TRX-only features include 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch Wrangler Territory All-Terrain Goodyear rubber, integrated fender flares which add eight inches of body width, and an all-new custom-designed suspension. Top speed is 118 mph.

Production is scheduled to get underway at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan in the next couple of months. We expect the first customer deliveries, specifically the Launch Edition, will happen before the year wraps up. These early buyers will be getting the greatest Christmas present ever.
