The market for Heavy Duty pickup trucks remains strong and to keep things competitive, Ram has just introduced its slightly updated offerings for the 2021 model year. The Ram Heavy Duty series, which dates back to 2019 and consists of the 2500 and 3500 trucks, are now more capable than ever thanks to a few key upgrades requested by customers.

The 2021 Heavy Duty is now the most capable truck in its segment thanks to offering up to 1,075 lb-ft of torque (a 75 lb-ft improvement over last year). That extra power translates to additional towing capacity, now rated at up to 37,100 pounds when using a gooseneck hitch. This is an impressive 2,000 pounds more than the previous model year. To make this possible, Ram worked closely with Cummins to improve the 6.7-liter inline-six turbo diesel with higher boost limits and an increased flow rate in the fuel delivery system.

Updates to the truck's frame rails and rear-axle crossmember were also made to handle the increased towing capacity. The optional fifth-wheel and gooseneck hardware are now fully integrated into the cargo bed's floor. Using a conventional hitch reduces the tow rating to a still impressive 23,000 pounds. The only other significant change for 2021 is an optional digital rearview mirror.

"Ram regains capability leadership by delivering the highest-ever torque rating for a diesel pickup truck and heaviest gooseneck towing capacity," said Mike Koval Jr., Head of Ram Brand. "We understand the attributes that are most important to our customers within the heavy-duty segment; they demand hardworking, long-lasting capability."

Just last month, Ram revealed the 75th anniversary Power Wagon Edition for 2021 which essentially is a styling package. Additions included a black mesh grille, gloss black headlight surrounds, a Gunmetal RAM badge up front, and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in 33-inch tires. A few new exterior colors are available, including some two-tone shades. The interior receives anniversary logos and gloss black trim applied to the center console and instrument panel.

Pricing for the anniversary edition begins at $66,945, including destination, and is available in dealerships now.
